Fitness Routines Of The Greatest Generation In situations where we are required to remain at home, it might be difficult to keep up our physical performance. It is possible that watching the news could leave me feeling so physically exhausted that I will be unable to do anything other than put on my favorite pair of llama pajama pants and bring tubs of ice cream to my front face. Living in a society that is fraught with uncertainty prompted me to reflect about previous generations and the ways in which they survived challenging times.

Years ago I heard a webcast about surviving to be a centenarian and making it see 100. The fact that people who had the greatest number of years left in their life were not the most physically fit was the most shocking phenomenon. Neither the Olympians nor the bodybuilders nor the marathon runners were among them. Instead, they are regular folks who moved their bodies in a more mild manner throughout the day. They did this throughout the whole day. They physically moved their bodies by walking instead of driving, and they washed the dishes by hand rather than using the dishwasher.

Is it possible that it is time to return to the fundamentals so that we can resume our movement? In order to make some modest modifications to our new habits, let's learn a few recommendations from our more experienced companions. Our health and our bodies are so worth it!

Fitness Routines Of The Greatest Generation

Walking Was The Intended Use For These Feet. And That’s Precisely What They’ll Do.

Instead of choosing short-cuts, I am finding the path of most difficulty to boost my step count.  If you have to venture out throughout the day, think about walking or cycling instead of driving.  When taking the automobile, park at the furthest end of a parking lot.  There are always a few additional steps I could always be taking — I’m challenging myself to go the extra mile.

Find Something, Anything To Clean!

Feel the burn while you clean, vacuum, and unload the car! Think of modest alternatives involving more elbow grease like brewing a morning brew with a French press instead of a drip coffee machine.  I’m deciding to wash dishes by hand even more so these days, it keeps me moving more and saves water.  Sorry Romba, but every bit of movement matters so you are going into the closet for the time being.

If You’re Watching Tv, Put On A Comedy.

Have you ever laughed so hard that your abs hurt the next day? No joke:  it’s a tremendous work-out.  Studies in the International Journal of Obesity have showed that laughing enhances energy expenditure and increases heart-rate 10-20%. Just 15 minutes of laughing a day will burn 10-40 calories.

And, If There Are Commercials, That Is Your Opportunity To Work-it.

I’m taking that time to perform 20 push-ups, 10 burpees or even 30 squats. The goal is to switch it up each break so all main muscle groups are stimulated.

Drink Like A Fish

Water that is!  Consuming lots of liquids enables me to get up at least once an hour and stops me from sitting too long.  I reduce water consumption the hour before bedtime to prevent interrupting my beauty sleep.

PSA:  I avoid drinking water from single use plastic bottles.  It’s more crucial than ever to respect the resources of our world.
